TGIF

This week I am thankful for...

having the entire weekend off work so I can catch up on sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! Plus the clocks go back an hour Sunday so I get an extra hour in bed Monday morning! Bit of a selfish one but there we go ;)

Have a good weekend!

Thursday 28 October 2010

It's almost Friday!

You know what that means...payday! My bank balance has looked very depressing this last month. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the sick pay I'm owed from two bloomin months ago and I can have a bit of extra £££!

But hey ho, I don't like to complain because negativity is BAD. Always be positive! So if you're feeling sad today or just need cheering up, just look at these super cute Old English Sheepdog puppies and you will feel instantly happy!

Recovered my videos!

Bin Liners & Buenos

Hello followers.

Today has been a busy one. Up early for a flat check (only lasted 5 minutes so was barely worth getting up for!) Then went to the post office and posted off all my ebay packages. Town was so packed I could barely move! Then I got some BARGAIN knee high brown boots from Primark.I really wanted the tan ones but my leg wouldn't even fit in them! (People who know me will know I have sparrow ankles and skinny calves so I settled for the dark brown ones which are equally as nice and look a little bit like riding boots.  I was due a new pair as the Topshop ones I've had for the last 6 winters have finally been thrown out. I have seen some nice boots in Topshop this season but sadly I can't justify £90 on a pair. But £18 from Primark is alright! I also bought some woolly leggings so I won't freeze on the late tomorrow at work and they'll hopefully get me through winter as well. Met my friend Amanda and helped her pick out Halloween decorations for her party this weekend then I bought bin liners and buenos from poundworld (my Mum would be so proud) but had to rush back home pretty sharpish as I couldn't stand being shoved about by careless, rude people.

This afternoon was quiet, did some research about jobs and made 6 pages of notes ready to go into my interview book. So productive afternoon! Now my lasagne is cooking and it smells delicious but no red wine to go with it. Boo hoo :(

Until next time! xo

Monday 25 October 2010

So so so so so so tired!

This looks so appealing to me right now! I don't think it's a good idea to go to bed at half past eight or I'll be wide awake at 4am!

Back to reality

Well now Georgina has gone I'm all aloney on my owney once again. Had a brilliant weekend but now it's back to reality for me. However, just one more week then I go home for my parents birthdays which will be FUN!

Here's a poem to brighten up your Monday! (Or if we're being technical, it's a sonnet.)

The Lily

The white blossoms perching on the tree outside
match your delicate lips.
I admire you from the oak bench with my eyes open wide
watching you shake your sultry hips.
I know each freckle on your nose
And the pale tones of your skin.
Like the burnt orange colour of a rose
against snowdrops blossoming in spring.
But you don’t recognise me
Nor are you interested in gazing into my eyes
All you want is to dance and be free
and to reach up, growing tall towards the sky.
But this does not bother me
because I know where I’ll always find you, my beautiful Peace Lily.

My Weekend!

Well well well what an eventful weekend! I'm so tired I just want a bigggg lie in but have to get up early and take my sister to the train station so I think if we get there early I'll have a nice latte to perk myself up before work until 8pm!

Saturday was eventful, super busy day at work after a 7am start, followed by dashing to the station to meet my sister at 4pm. Then we popped to the shops to get some bits for tea and had lasagne with curly fries. Yum! Then we had a beer and chilled on the sofa before realising we had an hour before we needed to leave the house to get to the concert on time. So we rushed our little socks off and re-did our make up before hopping into a taxi.

The concert was doubly fab with knobs on! We heard lots of the old McFly classics like 'All  about you,' '5 colours in her hair' and 'Star girl.' They also played some songs from the new album including the two most recent singles 'Party Girl' and 'Shine a Light,' both of which I like, but some of the new songs are a bit iffy. They're very Peter Andre sounding and not the Mcfly sound everyone loves! They were quite good though and I enjoyed hearing them live for the first time. I was also really glad they played my favourite ever song 'Too Close for Comfort' which was never released but is one of my favourite songs.

I also got approached by two girls who thought I was someone famous. Then when I looked completely baffled they got all embarrassed and said they liked my outfit. Haha! I wonder who it was they mistook me for?

They also sang a cover of Taio Cruz' song Dynamite which I was filming, then my phone broke half way through! So I had to endure the rest of the concert (and weekend) with no phone! But alas a new one is arriving tomorrow.

Then today (Sunday) was a chilling out day which began with bacon sandwiches and brown sauce! Then a trip into town with lots of things on the itinerary. Lunch at Nando's (I got treated by my sister which was nice!) then she also took me for a milkshake later on and we had a little look around the shops.

Lastly we came home, cracked open the wine and my friend Amanda came round to watch XFactor and now here we are! Desperate housewives is on next then it's off to bed for us. Hopefully next week will be just as nice as this week! (I'm going to Amanda's Halloween party, albeit with no costume. Maybe I'll just put a sheet over my head and go as a ghost!

Here are a couple of pictures from McFly lastnight, they're just the ones off my camera as the ones on my phone aren't accessible until tomorrow! Enjoy, and hope you all had a great weekend!

Until next time :)

7am is my nemesis!

Good morning followers, I am VERY tired after being up at 4am throwing up then some very inconsiderate people outside singing Spandeau Ballet at 5am. However here is a poem to lighten the mood!

Happy Saturday!

The Traveller
I met a traveller from the hills of Spain.
His face was whiskered and dried from the sun.
He wore thick tan boots and his tattered shirt, undone.
I held his bags while he re-buttoned, helping to ease his strain.
I noticed he was wearing a heavy, scratched gold chain,
with a dangling pendant of a gun.
I asked his reason but he had none,
‘Just a family heirloom’ he exclaimed.
We walked to a bar and sat awhile,
listening to his tales, tribulations and trials.
The old man’s black eyes were knowledgeable and wise,
His skin mottled and beaten, unlike his spirit
Which dazzled as he spoke through his battered guise.
Any story he was willing to share, I was eager to hear it.

TGIF

Deary me! I almost forgot it's FRIDAY! So you know what that means. TGIF! This week I am grateful for Liam. He helped me sort out all my computer files (well, he did it, I didn't know how) and put all the programs onto my new laptop, set it up for me and showed me how to keep everything more organised. And he did all the washing up while he was here so big thanks to you little sausage! <3

Lonely little me...

Well Liam's gone and so have my Mum & Dad so I'm all by myself. (Only until tomorrow when my sister is visiting.) Whenever people leave after spending time together I get this overwhelming feeling of loneliness. I do like being by myself and I enjoy my own company, otherwise living alone would be SUPER depressing, but after spending time with people I love I just get sad when they have to go home. At least I have work today to keep me busy!

Anyway enough sadness... Me & my sister are off to see one of our favourite bands McFly tomorrow and we're super excited! It's going to be a long day as I'll be up from 7am doing a shift at work beforehand but it'll be fun nonetheless. Then day off on Sunday which will be spent cooking a roast dinner and watching tv. Can't wait! I had a quick flick through our pictures from when we went to their last concert and it's got me in the mood to hear some live music!

Next update will probably be Sunday as I'll be suuuuuper busy tomorrow!

TTFN!

A Poem!

As promised followers, here is a poem I wrote a couple of years ago and forgot about. I didn't really like it at the time but after reading it now I've decided I actually quite like it. See if you can guess what it's about.

How Times Change
From the top of those familiar wooden steps you look down
at the desolate ground, which still looks bewildered even after all this time.
You think back to how the violent sun used to scorch your neck,
as punishment for interfering with your Grandfathers routine and hiding his trowel.
Remember how you peered down from your raised haven
as if the Queen of the lawn,
observing the long strips of turf and soil
and addressing the spades like subjects.
You close your eyes and remember the rows of creamy parsnips
growing in perfect parallel with one another.
Harmoniously.
Now they are rotten, turf trodden, sodden and spoiled.
Orange bricks replace the carrots
which once filled your Sundays with fruition.

So, (not so) funny story

My new computer turned up today so all of my files are currently in the process of being wiped off my old laptop and transferred onto my new external hard drive so I can't post any of my work tonight. Poo! However it should all be sorted for tomorrow, so I will have to keep you in suspense until then :)

TTFN!

It's a new week

..and I have to start it off by going to work. Sometimes being a grown up is so utterly crap. I don't think I'd be in such a big huff about it if I hadn't have been kept up half the night by my inconsiderate neighbours who have a penchant for horrible drum and bass music. Will do a more detailed post tonight mes petite pois, I realised I've not actually done any 'writing' posts yet. Ooops! Might pop some of my poems up later on so you can marvel at them. Ha!

Have a good Monday all.

FCKH8!

Hello followers,

Here's a video about gay rights which is something I feel very strongly about. It's shocking but maybe that's what people need. Some people are so narrow minded and ignorant (admittedly they are mostly American) and think that being gay is a choice. Of course it's not a choice! It's a part of who you are. I don't see why gay people can't get married. It's legal in England (well, civil partnership but not marriage in a church - and don't even get me started on that!) but in America it's illegal. I honestly don't understand why a government would deem it illegal for two people to confess their love for each other in front of their friends and family.

Anyway, watch the video and come to your own conclusions!

TGIF

Hello followers,

This week I am grateful for photographs! Liam showed me this really cool site which you should definitely check out. It's so cool to see how people change over time and some of the outfits / hairdo's are just hilarious.

Here's the link for the website!

http://www.zefrank.com/youngmenowme/

I'm thinking about maybe recreating one and posting it when I go home next. Which photo do you think I should recreate with my family? I'll post them below.

What are you grateful for this week?

Happy Friday!

Girls Take Abbey Road

New Blog Title

You may have noticed I have changed the title of my little blog. I thought that this one seemed more appropriate. It's sort of an in-joke with my Mum but basically an Egyptian man on holiday called me 'Milky Lady' to get me to go inside his shop. I was pretty insulted because I wouldn't dare have called him 'Chocolate Man' but we managed to make a joke about it and Milky Lady was added to my ever growing list of names.

Anyway, got lots to do today before Liam gets here.

Until next time!

All We Need Is Love!

Whenever I feel sad or down I listen to this and it instantly cheers me up and reminds me what's important. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Such a beautiful arrangement. His cover of 'Blackbird' is equally beautiful. I could listen to this on repeat all day!

Monday, Monday

Happy Monday everyone!

I've had 12 hours sleep as felt super ill lastnight. Still got a bit of a headache but nothing some painkillers and scrambled egg on toast won't cure. Only two days until my little sausage head Liam comes to visit. Hooray!

What are you looking forward to this week?

TGIF

Okay so here's a new thing I'm going to try. Seeing as I've done a couple of posts already entitled 'TGIF,' each friday I'm going to do a post and say what I'm grateful for this friday (or this week even.)

So this week, I am grateful for the following...

vegetables - because without them I wouldn't have been able to make delicious home made soup.
my birthday slippers - for keeping my feet toasty warm and comfy after a long day at work.
my dads wednesday pep-talk - because it cheered me right up.

What are you all grateful for this week?

Another Favourite Book!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Yes, a self confessed Potter fan. Although I didn't read any of the books until 2007, when dared to by my boyfriend. I told him they were 'books for children' and I wasn't interested. And he bet me that I wouldn't be able to get them finished by the end of the summer. Anyone who knows me will know I can never let a bet pass me by and so decided to give it a go (albeit unwillingly.)

I admit, the first two books were written in a way which was obvious that they were for children (well, after all, that is what they were meant to be originally,) but by the time I was halfway through 'Azkeban' I was hooked. Fantasy really isn't a theme I look for in a book, I much prefer real life stories and things I can relate to, but I found myself getting completely lost in this Wizarding World and was (must to my surprise) absolutely loving it. While I love all the books, my favourite is definitely Deathly Hallows. While it's not the longest of the series I just loved finding out how everything ended, who survived, who died, what happened to everyone and all the twists and turns along the way. This was also the only book that has made me cry. I'm not one for crying at stories, I don't even cry in films really, but there were a few moments in this book I just found so emotional. (Obviously the death of Dobby and again at the end of the Battle for Hogwarts.)

Here's a brief (ish) summary of what happens...

Following Dumbledore's death, Voldemort has completed his ascension to power and gains control of the Ministry of Magic. Harry, Ron, and Hermione drop out of school to find and destroy Voldemort's remaining Horcruxes. They isolate themselves to ensure the safety of their family and friends. They do not have much knowledge about the remaining Horcruxes except the possibility that two of them are objects that belonged to Hogwarts founders Rowena Ravenclaw and Helga Hufflepuff, and that the third is Nagini, Voldemort's snake familiar. The locations of the two founders' objects are unknown, and Nagini is presumed to be with Voldemort himself. As they search for the Horcruxes, the trio learn details about Dumbledore's past, as well as Snape's true motives.
The trio recovers the first of Voldemort's Horcruxes, Salazar Slytherin's locket, by infiltrating the Ministry of Magic. They recover the Sword of Godric Gryffindor; it is one of a few objects that can be used to destroy Horcruxes (being dipped in Basilisk venom), and they use it to destroy the locket. In their travels the trio comes across a strange symbol, which an eccentric wizard named Xenophilius Lovegood (father of Luna) tells them represents the mythical Deathly Hallows. The Hallows are revealed to be three sacred objects: the Resurrection Stone, a stone with the power to recall the dead to the world of the living; the Elder Wand, an unbeatable wand; and an infallible Invisibility Cloak. Harry learns that Voldemort is seeking the Elder Wand, but is unaware of the Hallows and their significance. The trio decides that discovering Voldemort's Horcruxes is more important than procuring the Hallows for themselves. They break into Bellatrix Lestrange's vault at the Wizarding Bank Gringotts to recover another Horcrux, the cup of Helga Hufflepuff. Harry learns that another Horcrux is hidden in Hogwarts, and Harry, Ron, and Hermione enter the school. They find this Horcrux, the Diadem of Ravenclaw, and successfully destroy the cup and the diadem.
The book culminates in the Battle of Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione, in conjunction with students and members of the wizarding world opposed to the rise of Voldemort, defend Hogwarts from Voldemort, his Death Eaters, and various magical creatures. Several major characters are killed in the first wave of the battle. The battle commences and Voldemort requests Harry meets him in the Forbidden Forest, alone, to battle face to face and meet his fate.

(I won't reveal the ending purely because I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't read it.)

I also found it really interesting as to what happens to everyone next. Although there's an epilogue of where everyone is 19 years later, JK Rowling had obviously thought about it in great detail and had made notes of what happens throughout all the key characters' lives.

J.K Rowling completed the book while staying at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh in January 2007 and left a signed statement on a marble bust of Hermes in her room which read; "J. K. Rowling finished writing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in this room (652) on 11 January 2007". In a statement on her website, she said, "I've never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric." She compared her mixed feelings to those expressed by Charles Dickens in the preface of the 1850 edition of David Copperfield, "a two-years' imaginative task." "To which," she added, "I can only sigh, try seventeen years, Charles..." She ended her message, "Deathly Hallows is my favourite, and that is the most wonderful way to finish the series."

So if you haven't read the series, please, please, give it a go. Don't be ignorant like I was. In a way I'm glad I read them at the age I am now, because not only have I been able to appreciate and understand the writing more, but I haven't had to wait for any of the books to come out :)

Until next time my loves <3

Rise & Shine!

More favourite books to come tonight, but first, I have a day of work ahead of me.

Wish I was here with a book and a cocktail though!

My Favourite Books

Today is my day off work! Hoorah! So I'm going to fill it with doing boring grown up things, followed by a bit of reading. Considering I have now reached the grand old age of 22, I have a somewhat younger taste in reading material. Some people say 'immature' but I say there's nothing wrong with being a free spirit!

So here are a few of my favourite books of all time and a little bit about them!

Blind Beauty - K M Peyton

Really is one of my favourite books, I read it as a child and I think it was the first book I read without forgetting about it for a couple of months when I'd got halfway through. It was also the first 'big' book I read by myself (with more then 200 pages.) It took me a while to finish it but the story is so gripping (especially to horse lovers like myself) I read it every night for a couple of hours until I had finished it. Heres a little bit about the story...

Tessa has major attitude and an impossible dream—not a great combination for success. But she believes that fate has delivered the ungainly horse Buffoon to her and Tessa is determined never to be separated from him. What's more, she intends to one day become a jockey and ride Buffoon in the Grand National. But how can a girl with a violent temper and a "can't do" philosophy gain the physical strength, courage, and money needed to become a jockey, especially when her stepfather would like nothing better than to see her fail? Determination and grit may not be enough—but Tessa's not going to let go without giving it her all.

Confessions of Georgia Nicholson (Series of 10 books) - Louise Rennison

I originally started reading these books when I was ill from school one day, my Mum bought me the third book in the series, 'Knocked out by my Nunga-Nunga's' as a present, but as I had never read the previous two so when I was reading it I didn't really know what was going on, so my friend lent me the first two and after that I was hooked. The series is essentially a set of Georgia Nicholson's diaries, with an hourly breakdown of her embarrassing life. She is so similar to me, I felt that we were sisters separated at birth!

The story focuses is Georgia's daily life, with her mad family and evil prefects at school making her life as difficult as possible as well as Georgia's main love interest Robbie aka 'The Sex God,' which soon changed to Masimo, 'The Italian Stallion' once Robbie leaves Georgia to go to New Zealand.

As one of these books was released every year since I was 14, I more or less grew up reading about Georgia and the Ace Gang and used to really look forward to the newest book coming out so that I could take it on holiday to read - even though I'd have finished it by the time I got off the plane.

I was so sad once I'd finished the 10th book (which came out last summer) and the journey with Georgia and the gang was over. Every book leaves you wanting to know what happens next and when I finished the last book I found myself wanting the story to continue. But since then, Louise Rennison has started a new gang with a character called 'Tallulah Casey' who is actually Georgia's cousin. So who knows, she might appear on my pages once more!

There are lots of other books I will be talking about, but that's it for now as I'm dying for a brew!

So who saw lastnight's X factor?

I must admit, after watching last nights X Factor I was NOT impressed with the final 12 one bit. In all honesty I think the show is really scraping the barrel this year for contestants. Whilst watching the first round of auditions I didn't see anyone who I thought 'WOW, they could really win.' The only people who really stood out for me in auditions were Gamu and Mary. Mary, while I think she has a fantastic voice and seems like a great person, it's unlikely that she could win the show just purely on the fact that the people voting for the show want someone with an image to win. It's a bit like the whole Susan Boyle thing, everyone was rooting for her because she was such a great story, but when it came down to it, did anyone really care once she'd released an album?

Gamu not making the final 12 on the other hand, was a total shocker. I don't think she had the strongest voice out of the girls, Anastasia was probably the best singer, but Gamu definitely had the likeability factor and she had a great image to go with it. Lots of people were talking about her audition and she when being interviewed she was modest but seemed really sweet and genuine. She was different, not a pop star clone wannabe like Katie or Cher. Don't even get me started on those two. It seems as though both of them are only interested in fame and money and their pictures in magazines, not the music. Cheryl said they're both 'quirky' and 'different' but they aren't really are they? Cheryl might think they're different but I am yet to meet a single person who doesn't think that Katie is a total dick head. I think it's most unfair that both of them keep making mistakes and getting rewarded for it, while people like Anastasia and Gamu performed fantastically without any mistakes and had to step aside.

The Groups did okay, I was sort of hoping for Princes & Rogues to get through though because I thought they were quite cool and sang some great songs. Obviously 1 Direction (aka Justin Bieber clones) got put through for the young girls who would be voting at home. I wasn't really too bothered about boys, but I was glad that Matt got through but other than him none of the boys really enthralled me.

Anyway, that's my X factor breakdown for this week!
Until next time!

I have returned!

Hello hello hello hello!

Sorry to have been an utterly rubbish updater lately. Been super busy. I was my birthday on Wednesday and I had a lovely day at an owl & rare breeds farm, followed by a big paella for dinner with family and friends. Then it was time for trivial pursuit! Which I obviously won because I was the birthday girl.

Now it's back to reality in Manchester, looking for writing work and being a normal person. But tomorrow it's my belated birthday dinner at Frankie & Benny's (how apt!) with my lovely Manchester friends.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from my birthday weekend in Hereford. Enjoy!
